Whipple's disease

Whipple's disease
a rare disease, occurring only in males, in which absorption of digested food in the intestine is reduced. As well as symptoms and signs of malabsorption there is usually skin pigmentation and arthritis. Diagnosis is made by jejunal biopsy; microorganisms have been found in the mucosa, and the disease usually responds to prolonged antibiotic treatment [H. Whipple (1878–1976), US pathologist]
